2011 NAPCWA Spring Conference Presentations Are Available Online

Flyer

If you were in Washington, DC for the NAPCWA 2011 Annual Spring Forum, you were part of one of NAPCWA’s most important meetings ever. The agenda for the meeting supported our theme, A New Congress, New State Leadership, New Opportunities for Children, Youth, and Families. Throughout the 3 days of plenary sessions, workshops, and open forums, attendees focused on the need for a “new narrative” and messaging in child welfare, the increasing uses of data and information management, the Congressional landscape for 2011, and the critical role NAPCWA members play in impacting policies and practice that lead to improved outcomes. Highlights from the forum included:
  • Open dialogue with Bryan Samuels on the administration’s priorities in moving child welfare to the next plateau.
  • Opening Plenary given by Susan N. Dreyfus rallying child welfare leaders to continue leading national, state, and local system’s innovations for improved outcomes.
  • Workshop sessions on key emerging topics such as; best practices in child welfare public private partnerships, connecting data, dots and digits to understand and enhance agency performance, and using the Positioning Public Child Welfare Guidance to affect agency change.
  • A celebration of the legacy of George Sheldon, former Deputy Secretary for Florida’s Department of Children and Families (recipient of the Betsy R. Rosenbaum Award) and the extensive applied research and knowledge development of Mark E. Courtney, professor of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago and a faculty affiliate at Chapin Hall (recipient of the Peter Forsythe Award)
  • A congressional briefing hosted with our partners, Casey Family Programs, on state investments in prevention programs that keep children safe and families intact, and highlighted the need for comprehensive child welfare finance reform.

And between all of these dedicated sessions, there were opportunities for peer networking and connecting — a hallmark of the NAPCWA meetings.

Thanks to those of you who contributed to the success of the event. Presentations can be found here
